About the Outfitter:
Earlier seasons pack-in. The best of both worlds and Colorado’s Biggest Bull was shot here! This hunt does fill up quickly so only certain dates may book up early at any time.
This option is a traditional pack-in on horseback semi-guided hunt. This hunt is about a 7-10 mile pack-in with your gear, to a pre-setup tent camp with cots and cooking utensils, bring your own sleeping bag and food.
The guide/wrangler will advise you of the historical best places to hunt, because he has retrieved elk from those locations to give you a starting place tom hunt, then it is completely up to you to put a elk down. The success on this hunt is high but the major factor for success is not the elk available, but the skill of each hunter in finding and putting down an elk, not the number of opportunities.

Central Colorado, cabin in GMU053 and drop camps in GMU053 and GMU521. West Elk and Raggeds Wilderness.

Species & Recommended Seasons:
Elk pack-in early archery through 2nd rifle.
Licenses:
Unit 53 archery, 2nd and 3rd rifle elk is over the counter. Unit 521 archery elk is a draw but leftover and 2nd or 3rd rifle over the counter.
Muzzleloader, 1st and 4th rifle elk are a draw.
All deer licenses are a draw and take preference points to draw.

License and Season Information
Lay of the Land:
The elk spend their summers and fall up on the mountain, and migrate down to the hayfields below. Weather is your friend and moves the elk down off the mountain, many through a large traveling corridor down to the hayfields below. There was a pipeline put in years ago and the elk use the pipeline to travel. There are elk benches above which can be steep to get to from the cabin but once you are up there it's fairly easy walking.

Animal Quality:
Typical elk 4x4 to 6x6. Mule Deer up to 5x5.
Success Rate:
This is a good elk hunting area. If he sets a hunter success number for the average hunter, then the question is raised how good your hiking is, hunting skills.... average or better than average. Then there is no way of saying at what level the earlier hunters’ skills were to grade it off. If your skills are better than average, then your success rate will be better than average.
Hunt Difficulty:
