With Mule Deer the most common of the deer there are also whitetail deer, along with antelope in the pasture lands. The deer are local, and the 3,500 acres of private land are adjoined by thousands of acres of national forest. You can hunt the private or public land or you can hunt the canyons as the public hunting pressure in the national forest pushes more deer from the public land to the private land for their annual trek to the safety of the ranch.
There is a high desire to hunt the mule deer known to be on this property. Because of that no one will be able to hunt mule deer their first time hunting the property. They must first hunt whitetail deer or antelope with any weapon then will be moved up to the ones that can hunt mule deer ordered by date determined by the outfitter. In this way he can give priority to the return clients as he wishes.
Hunting the canyons is on foot, but that is where the biggest deer and the highest concentrations stay.
The antelope, mule deer and whitetail numbers are managed to provide every hunter a great hunting experience.
You will work for the deer and antelope, but you will go home with a nice buck for your efforts. Your deer license is good for mule deer or whitetail and if you don’t care which you shoot, we prefer that you shoot any whitetail deer to help our mule deer to stay at about 50% of the deer population.
You can shoot any whitetail, but for mule deer you cannot shoot a mule deer doe, just the bucks. Whitetail Deer will eventually take out the Mule Deer as they have in eastern Nebraska and through the center of the state over the past years.
The outfitter will give you their cell phone number and they are usually around the ranch somewhere all day. You can call or text them if you have any questions through your hunt.
DIY deer hunting but the outfitter will show you the property and give advice on hunting.
Species & Recommended Seasons:
Mule deer, whitetail and antelope.
One note on the antelope hunting in Nebraska. A non-resident can only shoot a buck antelope if he is using archery equipment. If a non-resident wants to use a rifle, he can only get an antelope doe tag from the state and it is the same price as a buck license would be. A resident on the other hand can shoot a buck or doe antelope and only pays the resident license fee amount.
Licenses are easy to get for deer and become available about the first of August online.
Hunting is on 3,500 acres of private land with CRP, canyons, cedar trees, buck brush, sand hills and cover. Property adjoins national forest. The canyons are the ranches private land as well and is a prime place for the deer. In this dry climate of NW Nebraska, summer and fall can get dry. With some livestock on the ranch year around and springs the wildlife knows they can always find water. Stock ponds fed by springs are kept full, so they are also a dependable water source as well. This keeps a lot of game animals around the ranch, but when pushed you will find them in the high brush and cover areas of the ranch. A forest fire about 5 years ago on part of the ranch has grown into a deer food delicatessen of new growth and tender young and juicy forbes that are highly desired by all deer and antelope.
One or more hunters per group.
Mode of Travel:
You can drive all the ranch roads with a 4WD truck, or an ATV, but you must stay on the established 2 tracks. Canyons by foot where the bigger bucks are.
