Hunt #5186 DIY Drop Camp Flattops Wilderness

Current Stock:

Hunt ID: CO-5186

About the Outfitter:

If you like hunting, horses, and elk, it doesn’t matter if you prefer rifles, bows or muzzleloaders we hunt with all of them.

A meeting at the trail here or the ranch starts your adventure, meet your guides and or wranglers, then start enjoying what Colorado is famous for, a never ending outdoors, and abundant deer and elk to pick through. Warm days and crisp nights, in the early seasons, with cold days and colder nights in the late season. Remember elk don’t travel on a specific day every year just because Colorado Parks and Wildlife set the day for you to hunt. They move by the weather conditions. Temperature and snow are a big factor in hunting elk. The elk rut is in September, usually the 2nd week to the 1st week in October. Mule deer are much more predictable with the rut being rifle hunting in November.

This hunt provider has hunted for over 30 years in the famous Flattops Wilderness, and the famous White River area of Colorado. Whether you are hunting guided or Drop camp, it will be an experience you will remember for years to come. Hunting elk in the environment, habitant and home, is taking him when he is at his best. The camps are at different altitudes of 8,000 feet up to about 11,000 feet or so. As a designated wilderness area there are no motor vehicles or electricity. Any electricity must be provided by solar equipment. This is a famous traditional elk hunt the way it was done 100 years ago. We provide you with the wood, cut by hand, in your tent, with cots, cooking and eating utensils. We have found that we can lower the cost of the hunt and the waste of good food by allowing you to bring what you like, not what we like, and it works well that way.

Being in good physical shape is an advantage over those that are not, we recommend exercise at home, no smoking and drink a can of boost every day a week prior to your hunt and 1 every day of you hunt. Drink water every day, increasing to a gallon and a half when hunting to be at your best. Plan on arriving the day before your hunt to adjust and take care of arrangements.

Our guides are in very good physical condition and are prepared for the most difficult conditions. However patience and determination are the best assets!
