As one of the last outfitters in the state to offer authentic pack-style hunts, you are in for the treat of your life surrounded by nature and elk. The archery hunts are driven by rut activity and water source needs. The Bulls are in full rut and we are going to bring in one for you to meet, head to head, face to face, with bow in hand.
The base camp was set up on the Grand Mesa over 40 years ago in Unit 41 of the National Forest Service. GMU041 is non-motorized, so we offer some of the most remote terrain in the state for the hunter, rider or fisherman looking for a truly backcountry experience.
To get to your main camp you will have packed in the day before through 6 miles of some of the most beautiful color changing aspens and elk habitat in the world. This is not to mention you will be hunting in one of the largest herds in Colorado, The Grand Mesa Herd averaging over 60,000 head. Keep in mind that, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and New Mexico have that many for a total of each state, and you are packed in sitting in the in western Colorado.
You’ll enjoy your wilderness experience from our base camp in spacious walled tents. We maintain two guest tents, each 12' x 14'. They provide plenty of room for you to sleep and store your gear.
Hot showers are available for our guests year-round except for November rifle seasons as it tends to freeze. We cook all your meals, so all you must think about is your hunt, and where the bull is that is bugling so loud when you are in camp eating breakfast.

Accessible only by foot or horse, our area remains primitive, private, and unfailingly wild. This is one of the keys to animal density and the sheer numbers in the area, no vehicle traffic. The number 1 thing on an elk mind is always safety. It is above water, food and even the rut. No vehicles spells safety to an elk and they thrive here in the spring, summer and fall seasons.

The experience of your guide covers 40 years of hunting and guiding with many, many successful hunts under his belt. When I say, he is a better guide than a cook it is not because he is a bad cook it is because he is such an experienced professional guide and owner of the company. He would have to be a decorated culinary chef to top the level he holds as a guide and outfitter. His guiding experience earned him a nine-season hosting position on the Nielson-ranked The Best and Worst of Tred Barta, a role as an “elk expert” on Elk Fever, and appearances on many other outdoor shows. He now co-hosts the much-anticipated Remington Country TV.
