About the Outfitter:

With 35 years of outfitting the mountains of Colorado providing hunters with successful and quality during archery, muzzleloader and rifle seasons in Colorado Since 1976. We offer elk, mule deer and mountain lion / cougar hunts and black bear hunts on a permit that is administered by the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests. Join us for some of the best hunting in Western Colorado!

Whether you are looking for a fully guided elk and/or mule deer hunt or want to do it yourself on a self-guided drop camp or base camp hunt, we offer a large variety of hunting options. You can also use our base camp as a place to stay for your trophy elk unit GMU061, or desert bighorn hunt in unit GMU062.

Phone communications are available in this area.

If you supply the horse or better yet your ATV it cuts the cost that the outfitter must provide the hunt to you. He then passes the savings to you! ATV’s, Side-by-Sides, whichever you have fit you, make hunting different areas around your drop camp a breeze because in elk hunting the more ground that you can cover the better your odds of bring home horns and meat..... packed out on your ATV.

Hunts take place from 6000’ to 9500’ elevation. You can get to the lowest and highest point from camp in about 90 minutes.

Fully guided base camp hunts for elk and deer

All the conveniences of home in a wilderness setting at 8400’ elevation. 7 day packages include arrival and departure days and 5 full days of hunting. These guided hunts are available on a limited basis. Seven day packages include guide, lodging in our comfortable base camp, meals, transportation to the hunting area from camp and game packing. Meals are served home style with hearty helpings of good energy for the days hunt. Your guide will take care of you in the field as well as taking care of packing your game to the main camp where we can take it to the processor or taxidermist if you choose.

This area holds a good population of resident elk and is adjacent to Trophy Unit GMU061. This is good because GMU061 requires preference points to draw, but GMU062 does not require a point to draw a license! We hunt just over the unit boarder where no points are required to draw a license. Elk and mule deer are very mobile with the rut and the migration so being right next to the unit line is great for spilling some trophy animals into your hunt.

We hunt in a manner that they stay in the area and are not blown out. If you can draw a deer tag you should consider concentrating on hunting the trophy bucks that frequent this area. A combination hunt is available if you would like to hunt elk and mule deer.

Semi-guided base camp hunt for elk and deer:

We offer semi-guided hunts from our base camp at 8400’ elevation. There is no minimum group size requirement so come on your own or bring your hunting buddies. You can bring your ATV or arrange for a rental on this hunt. This camp can be used to hunt any of the areas in GMU062 or GMU061, however we can only pack game in the permit area which is over 200 square miles in each unit.

The 1 hunter in camp is available but not recommended unless you are a very experience woodsman/elk hunts in Colorado. The physical labor of getting a downed elk to a location for 1 person is extreme. It is recommended that you pack a battery Powered Sawzall with 2 batteries to help cut up the load to make your transporting your elk to a place where you or the outfitter can get it on his Side by side ATV. A Sawzall makes this task much easier than a hand saw of any type. This is a pack-in camp hunt. All hunting, gutting, quartering, moving your trophy to an ATV pickup point is like a DIY hunt. The outfitter will provide you with good areas to hunt locations and where he has taken elk out before but come opening day you are hunting on your own.

** If you would like to use horses on your hunt add $600 per hunter.
