This outfitter is known for managed hunts on private land supplying consistent trophy bucks. If his trophy quality buck number drop, he reduces the number of hunters he takes until he gets them back to the managed number.
Senior citizen 180” class mule deer hunts on private land with an excess of trophy 180+ class bucks. Three DIY hunts are going to be given to the first 3 hunters that book before March 31st.
If you are tired of 160 Mule Deer, which are nice deer don’t get me wrong, but our bucks taken are 2 years older than 160” deer. Hunt prime 6000 acres of mule deer habit, filled with mule deer, and of course no fences. The big bucks stay there because they don’t migrate and are considered ”local bucks“. They keep herd number high as a rut attractant to bring in even more buck from the area around us that are low deer concentration because the minimal water sources.
Since the Mule Deer are not migratory, they are always on his properties as he watches them grow to the point that their genes begin to show and harvests only a few of the biggest bucks each year.
Most of the hunting is from a 4-wheel drive truck, glassing from the inside of the cab, finding the buck that you want and making a stalk for a shot on him. This is known as Safari Style Hunting.
The outfitter will send a welcome letter at the time of booking and receipt of the deposit with all the details about the hunt.
South Central Colorado GMU083.
The hunts are 1 on 1 as a rule unless you want a hunting partner but then after they shoot it will be 1 on 1 anyway.
Species & Recommended Seasons:
Mule deer any season.
All deer licenses are a draw. If you have preference points that you have been saving it requires 4-13 preference points to draw a license depending on the season.
In addition the season doesn’t matter much when you hunt, the deer are always there.
You will be hunting private land. There is a total of 10,000 acres, 4000 being agriculture ground with river bottoms, 6000 being rim rock high desert with Rio Grande River running through it. This 6000 acre farm/ranch is a mule deer haven. Year round water, river bottom, fields and fields of alfalfa, draws and heavy cover. The winter wheat assures that they have a mixture of high protein available year around. This unit has no public property so they have full control of the licensing.
One or more per group but max 7 hunters per year.
Mode of Travel:
ATV’s & Pickups will be used during the hunt as needed.
Boone & Crockett bucks live on the properties. You will see anywhere from 30-40 bucks a day. 100% success rate on bucks scoring from 165-218”. The dates of the hunt don’t change things much since the herd is a resident herd and don’t leave the property year around for the most part. On average you will be taking mule deer bucks that will score 180 plus. Last year with 34” wide bucks and many breaking the 180” line it shows the gene are here.
100% opportunity and 97% success rate.
There will be a moderate degree of physical ability required on this hunt due to the terrain and the sharp senses of mule deer of this caliber. Hunting will be mostly spot and stalk.
